Nervously waiting

After my mother’s accident she went to see the doctor he recommended she see her cardiologist just for a checkup. She has mitro valve pro lapse-irregular heartbeat. She goes and has test run about every 2 years to see the state of this problem. It had been about 18 months since her last visit. So on April 17 she went to the cardiologist. After the tests were run, the cardiologist sat my mother down and said he found something that was more serious than her original problem. Her aortic value is not pumping blood into her body like it should be. This explains a lot to me why she has been so weak and tired the last year. And for some strange reason they did not discover this serious problem last time. GRRR that is so frustrating. Then on April 19 she had even more test run and the nurse instructed her that he wanted to see my dad and her first thing on April 20. So they went in and said this is very serious and needs to be taken care of very soon. She has a heart catheterization on May 1. They will look at the valve and also look for blockage. If there is blockage they will put a stints in. And if he finds what he suspects they will do open heart surgery on May 2 to replace or repair the valve.

I am a nervous wreck…all we are doing is waiting. B and I will head that way after her catheterization if they decide surgery. We will be driving all night Tuesday but I can not be this far way when they are doing major surgery like that. It is so weird to talk to to my dad b/c I can hear the concern in his voice and my mother said he actually held her and cried. He is not a crier at all.

Just talked to my dad tonight and he said if they want to replace the valve, then they will be getting a second opinion. So that means no surgery Wednesday. If repairing the valve then we will be on the road tomorrow night. The waiting game continues!
